I'm surprised I've gradually gone off the idea, but aside from some curiosity about the upcoming fg-swiss I'm not really interested in more emulations of plugins I already have in an ecosystem I'm not particularly fond of. I own every slate plugin that was released before the subscription service started and have quite a few months left on my sub. I'll use slate's to conserve DSP on BV and smoother sounds. But the UAD ones are faster (if I want them to be) and therefore that's what ends up on my vocals, drums, bass most of the time. Again, I don't doubt there is hardware out there like that, and it's a great model. Overall, I find all of the releases of the 1176's too slow. I know real neve's that are like this and sometimes it works for me but often it's too much. When I use the neve EQ, I'm almost always clicking the 'indented' frequencies but I find it VERY aggressive compared to many other emulations. I also don't like the amount of added noise the SSL EQ adds. It could be argued the EQ doesn't sound as good or authentic, but basically every SSL plugin is perfectly usable and if you can't get a good sound then it's not the plugin. A typical SSL style channelstrip offers input/output trims, metering, HP/LP, ability to EQ the sidechain of the compressor (or gate), and includes a gate. Just to have input and output trims, and HP and LP filters, it takes 4 modules. The VCC comes as two independent plug-ins, the Virtual Channel for individual track processing, and the Virtual Mixbuss for stereo bus processing.
